Maximum Storage in Minimum Space — 40% More Per Square Foot

Walking into a beautiful home and seeing a reach-in closet with one rickety rod and a shelf collecting dust. A properly designed reach-in holds more than most walk-ins. The secret? Intentional design that uses every single inch.

Custom reach-in closet with center real wood drawer tower, double hanging rods, shoe rack, and floor-to-ceiling storage in Jensen Beach Florida bedroom.
We just designed a reach-in in Stuart that holds more than a 10x10 walk-in. True story. Our team at Able Closets has been maximizing reach-in closet space for 25 years across Jensen Beach, Stuart, and the Treasure Coast.
James Dean Sisto’s grandfather worked on the Empire State Building — this passion for precision runs in the family. Now James Dean and his son Kyle bring that same thinking to your 6-foot closet opening. With real wood drawer boxes when everybody else uses particle board.

What a Reach-In Should Feel Like

A properly designed reach-in should use vertical space completely — floor to ceiling. It should include adjustable components that adapt as life changes. It should organize by frequency: daily items at eye level, occasional items above or below. Most reach-ins waste 40–60% of potential storage. Too-deep single rod. Wasted vertical space. No drawer storage. No zone organization. When it’s designed right, your morning routine changes. You see everything you own. You grab what you need. You’re out the door.

The Double-Rod System: Twice the Hanging Space

Stack two clothing rods instead of one, doubles hanging space for shirts, jackets, folded pants. Below the lower rod: shoe rack, small drawers, or a hamper pullout. Above the upper rod: a shelf for boxes, bags, or seasonal items.
In a standard 6-foot reach-in, you go from one rod (maybe 15–18 garments) to two rods plus shelving. The difference is immediate.
This is the most common reach-in configuration we install, and the one that produces the biggest “wow” from customers on installation day.

Real Wood vs. Particle Board: Why It Matters

Particle board drawer boxes start absorbing Florida humidity the day they’re installed. Over time, a few years, maybe sooner, they swell. They warp. The bottom sags under the weight of folded clothes. The joints separate.
Real wood drawer boxes don’t do that. Ball-bearing drawer slides don’t do that.
Two-millimeter edge banding, double what most competitors use, protects the edges from Florida’s humidity and daily wear.

“We use real wood because I want you calling your friends saying ‘you’ve got to use these guys.’ Not calling us two years later because your drawer fell apart. That’s like putting wagon wheels on your car instead of good tires.”

The 3D Design Process

Free. No pressure. You see the design before anything is built.
Our designer comes to your home, measures the space, looks at what you’re working with, asks about your wardrobe and storage habits. Not a quick look. An actual conversation about how you use the space.
From there, our design team creates a 3D rendering of your new reach-in. You see exactly what it will look like, what it will hold, how each section functions. Approve it, adjust it, change the finish or configuration before we manufacture a single panel.
Manufacturing starts by using quality materials that are made to last. Installation is done by our own team, not subcontractors.Timeline: typically 3–5 weeks from consultation to finished installation

Common Questions

Reach-In Closet FAQs

A reach-in closet is accessed from outside the space — you reach in rather than walk in. Typically 4–8 feet wide and 24–30 inches deep. With smart design, they can hold an impressive amount — comparable to smaller walk-ins.
Absolutely. Floor-to-ceiling use, double rods, drawer towers, adjustable shelving — a well-designed 6-foot reach-in often holds more than a poorly designed walk-in. The difference is design.
Real wood handles Florida humidity, weight, and daily use without warping or swelling. Particle board absorbs moisture over time, causing drawers to stick, sag, or separate at the joints. Real wood lasts decades.
Most reach-in closet installations are completed in one day. The full process from consultation to install is typically 3–5 weeks.
