HERITAGE

Carpentry Runs in the Family

James Dean Sisto’s grandfather was an Italian immigrant carpenter who worked on the construction of the Empire State Building. His father did finish carpentry for interior designers. His uncle Tony built houses.

James Dean watched them work, absorbed it, and eventually built his own business around it—Able Closets, founded in 1999 in Jensen Beach. That heritage shows up in the work. It always has.

THE DIFFERENCE

What Custom Closet Carpentry Means

There’s a difference between assembling a closet and building one.

Off-the-shelf closet kits are assembled. You connect pre-made components with predetermined dimensions and you get a standard result. It works until it doesn’t fit your space, your style, or your needs.

Custom closet carpentry is built. It starts with your specific dimensions—not a guess at what your space might be. It’s designed around your wardrobe, your storage habits, your aesthetic preferences. Every component is made to fit your exact situation.

We manufacture everything in-house at our Jensen Beach facility. Not shipped from a warehouse. Built here, to your specs, and installed by our team.

WHAT WE BUILD

Every Type of Custom Closet System

Custom walk-in closets — Master suites to boutique-quality personal showrooms. Double-hang sections, island cabinets, built-in dresser drawers, jewelry drawers, shoe towers, his-and-hers configurations.

Custom reach-in closets — A well-built reach-in system dramatically outperforms what most Treasure Coast homes have. Double-hang, shelf towers, drawer units—all in the same footprint.

Wardrobe systems — For rooms without a built-in closet—common in older Florida homes—a custom wardrobe cabinet provides proper hanging space and storage.

Bedroom built-ins — Dresser towers, floating nightstands, under-bed drawers. Custom bedroom carpentry that looks like it was always part of the room.

Mudroom and entryway systems — Locker-style bench and cubby systems at the entry. Built tough, because mudrooms get abused.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

The Materials Make the Difference

James Dean talks about materials constantly. It’s not bragging—it’s a commitment he made to himself early on and has kept ever since.

“I supply real wood drawer boxes when everybody else uses particle board. The drawer is what opens and closes and moves every day. Particle board doesn’t survive Florida humidity. Real wood does.”

FAQS

Custom Closet Carpentry Questions

What types of wood and materials do you use for custom closets?

Our cabinet systems use premium substrates (high-quality engineered board products) with real wood drawer boxes and 2mm edge banding. These materials are selected for durability and Florida’s humid coastal climate conditions.

How long does a custom closet build take from start to finish?

Most projects take 4–6 weeks from initial consultation to completed installation. The process includes consultation, 3D design, manufacturing, remeasure, and professional installation.

Do you work from scratch or can you modify existing closets?

Both. We build brand-new custom closet systems and we remodel existing closets—removing old wire shelving or builder-grade systems and replacing with custom built-ins.

Can you match a specific finish or color?

Our materials come in a wide range of finishes and colors. Claire or the design team can walk you through options during the consultation to match your home’s aesthetic.

Why hire a local carpenter instead of a national franchise?

Local ownership means direct accountability. James Dean and Kyle are local—you can call them. Manufacturing in Jensen Beach means direct quality control. And 25 years of serving this specific community means we understand what Treasure Coast homes need.
