Sideways Wall Bed Solutions
Horizontal Murphy Beds When Vertical Won't Fit Your Room
Most Murphy beds fold vertically. But not every room has the ceiling height for that. Converted garages, bonus rooms, condo spaces with bulkheads horizontal Murphy beds solve the problem by folding sideways.
Same comfortable mattress. Same safe mechanism. Different orientation — width instead of height.
Vertical Murphy bed: folds up and down. Needs ceiling height for the full mattress length — 80 inches plus cabinet and mechanism clearance. Horizontal Murphy bed: folds side to side. Needs wall width for the mattress length, but only clearance for the mattress width.
If your wall is 10+ feet wide but your ceiling is 8 feet with limited clearance — horizontal is the answer. Same counterbalanced mechanism as vertical versions. Same soft-close, safe, easy operation. One person can operate it without effort.
Room Solutions
When Horizontal Makes More Sense
Low Ceiling Rooms
Standard 8-foot ceilings usually work for vertical Murphy beds. But soffits, beams, bulkheads, or other obstructions that reduce clearance below 88 inches make horizontal the clear choice.
Converted Spaces
Garage conversions, bonus rooms, workshop conversions — spaces where ceiling height wasn't planned for bedroom use. Horizontal avoids the height problem entirely.
Sloped Ceilings
Rooms under rooflines where one wall has adequate height but others slope. A horizontal installation on the full-height wall puts the bed exactly where it fits.
Wide But Not Tall
If the room's best wall has 12+ feet of width but limited height, horizontal uses that width effectively. Work with your room's strongest dimension.
Flanking Cabinets
Cabinets on either side of the horizontal bed unit — shelves, closed cabinets, drawers. Custom built to match your bed finish and storage needs.
