A queen Murphy bed (60×80 inches) sleeps couples comfortably. Standard bedding works — no hunting for specialty sizes. It fits in most rooms with about 90–95 inches of wall width. And if you ever sell the home, queen is the configuration most buyers expect.

Queen Murphy Bed Dimensions

Mattress size: 60 inches wide × 80 inches long (standard queen). Wall space needed: approximately 90–96 inches wide total with flanking storage. Can be configured with less flanking storage if wall width is limited.

Ceiling clearance: minimum 88–90 inches for a vertical queen Murphy bed. Standard 8-foot ceilings (96 inches) work with typical clearance. Cabinet depth when closed: approximately 14–18 inches — like a deep bookcase.

If your room is tighter on ceiling height, we also build horizontal queen Murphy beds that fold sideways instead of vertically.

What Size to Choose Instead of Queen

Mattress size: 60 inches wide × 80 inches long (standard queen). Wall space needed: approximately 90–96 inches wide total with flanking storage. Can be configured with less flanking storage if wall width is limited.

King (76×80")

If your guests expect luxury hotel-level comfort and you have the wall space (typically 105–115″ wide minimum), king is an option. Less common — most rooms don’t have the wall space and most guest situations don’t require it.

Full/Double (54×80")

Six inches narrower than queen. Fine for single guests or close couples. Saves some wall space. Most people choose queen if the room allows it.

Twin (39×80")

For kids’ sleepovers, single-guest rooms, or very limited wall space. Two twins side-by-side is also an option for flexibility.
